Promoter Francis Warren has confirmed there are plans in place for Vijender Singh’s big homecoming during 2016.
Speaking at yesterday’s press conference for Singh’s next outing on the huge Terry Flanagan v Derry Mathews undercard, Warren revealed; “We have big plans for him this year, we’re hoping to do a big show in Delhi around July.
“Plans are underway, the first one will be between 10,000 and 12,000 and then we have something huge around September/October. It’s going to be something that’s never been done before!”
Singh, who has picked up three impressive victories on the spin since turning pro, is looking forward to showcasing his talent in front of his loyal fans.
“It’s going to be crazy! Lots of people are interested in boxing now.”
Warren continued; “He’s making big waves and improving on a daily basis. Vijender is the flagbearer for Indian boxing, he’s taken a huge step to putting his country on the boxing map by coming over here.”
There’s been significant interest back home and a new TV deal was confirmed for the Olympian’s next move.
“We’ve done a major deal with Star TV in India, we had 20 million people watch his debut and 25 million in his next fight. That number will only increase. What will we do in India this year is going to be big news,” concluded the excited promoter.
