Speaking ahead of his fight tomorrow night, Alexander Povetkin has reiterated his desire to fight WBC World Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

“Right now we are concentrating on Mariusz Wach but of course I want to face Wilder.”

The WBC Silver champion is currently the mandatory challenger for Wilder’s title and its expected WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman will enforce immediate negotiations if Povetkin gets through Wach.

Talking with Przemek Garczarczyk through a translator, the 36 year old explained the decision to take a somewhat risky fight against Wach ahead of his mandated World title fight.

“He is a good height, people have the idea I don’t box too well with tall guys and I want to show I can fight with these guys.”

Since defeat to Wladimir Klitschko back in October 2013, the former WBA World Heavyweight champion has looked revitalised with impressive knock out victories over Manuel Charr and Carlos Takam plus more recently the first round demolition over Mike Perez.

“From two years ago to now, I have changed, I’m faster and I’ve had more conditioning. I have a good understanding with my trainer,” insisted Povetkin.
