Pound for pound superstar Guillermo Rigondeaux has praised World Title challenger Jazza Dickens ahead of their July 16 clash in Cardiff, live on BoxNation.
“I’d like to commend Dickens for having the courage to step in the ring with me, it’s going to be a hell of a fight!” explained the Cuban southpaw sensation.
The pair will finally meet after visa complications initially ruled out their scheduled contest back in March, but this time with World honours on the line.
Speaking from his training base in Miami, the skilled southpaw stated: “I apologise for last time, there was some complications beyond my control but now everything is taken care of and we’re ready!”
Rigondeaux was re-instated as the WBA’s World Super-Bantamweight Champion after Carl Frampton moved up to Featherweight, paving the way for Dickens to be the Cuban’s first defence.
Challenger Dickens is relishing the task at hand now with the added carrot of a World Title on the line.
“I’ve always said things happen for a reason and this proves it. It was disappointing the fight didn’t go ahead last time but this time it’s for a world title; I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity. Fights like this don’t come around every day so I’ve grabbed it with both hands.”
Fans will be treated to see one of the most talent boxers on the planet at the Cardiff Ice Arena with a stacked undercard including Liam Williams v Gary Corcoran, which has all the makings of a fight of the year contender.
