Willie Monroe Jr has been preparing hard for his second shot at World Title glory, this time against WBO Champion Billy Joe Saunders at the Copper Box.

Saunders has continually prodded and probed his American opponent in the build-up, often branding him a ‘quitter’ after telling the referee he had had enough against Gennady Golovkin in May 2015.

Talking to our official broadcast Sponsor for Canelo v GGG, 32Red, Monroe Jr says all the trash talk has done is to motivate him more: “We all know [Saunders is] pretty mouthy, he talks a lot and that’s done nothing but fire me up. I haven’t really been this motivated in a long time.

“I’ve always been taught to be humble so I’d rather not talk about how I’ve weighed Saunders up or how I see him but I can tell you that I can’t wait to get in there,” he revealed.

‘El Mongoose’ has been a tricky fighter in his career so far, picking up a career best win recently over Gabe Rosado. It is no surprise he thinks the biggest fighters in the division, bar Golovkin, have avoided him. He is ready to seize his chance this Saturday so the other top fighters must face him.

“[Saunders] has something I really want and I’m just going to go and take it. At the end of the day, when he’s locked in that ring with me there’s nothing he can do. You can’t talk your way out of trouble,” warned the New Yorker.

"Don’t get me wrong. I won’t take anything away from him because Saunders is a cool little fighter. I don’t see anything super special about him but I’ll just do what I do.”
