WBO World Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders has spoken with Kugan Cassius yesterday afternoon following the aftermath of Chris Eubank Jr’s British Title victory.

“I know and Eubank knows, even though I don’t like the boy… We both know the money we can earn from a rematch. But sometimes politics can get in the way. I don’t know who they think they are. Every time they sit around the table they talk like they are the next World Champion and he’s the next Muhammad Ali!” explained Saunders.

The pair first met back in November 2014 where Billy Joe got his hand raised with a split decision victory to retain his British, Commonwealth and European Titles.

“The first fight I gave them everything… No rematch clause, they didn’t even turn up to the press conferences. I got the fight done and beat him! Now I’m World Champion, I’ve got a lot of other options,” said the current WBO kingpin.

“Hopefully Golovkin in July, Canelo or Khan. My lawyer also works with Khan. There’s been chats behind the scenes if he comes through. I know Frank has got good contacts with Golden Boy with Canelo.”

WBA ‘regular’ World Champion Daniel Jacobs is the latest man to come calling following a Twitter rant over the weekend.

“Let me put this straight, I’ve got a lot of respect for him for what he’s gone through and where he is today. But would I get that belt around my waist and think ‘am I a two time World Champion?’ – He’s the man behind the man!”

Saunders revealed he would consider the fight but has other options: “He’s a good fighter, I’ll fight him but why would I want to fight him for that when I could fight Golovkin?”

First things first, Saunders has a potentially tricky first defence against ‘Mad’ Max Bursak on Saturday 30 April at the Copper Box Arena in London.

The defending Champion remains confident he’ll have too much for Bursak, who hasn’t been stopped: “Max Bursak… He is what he is… I should play ping pong with him. If I don’t, then obviously I’m not the World Champion I think I am!”

Tickets for Billy Joe’s first World Title defence are on sale from £33.50 via Eventim – or subscribe to watch live on BoxNation.
