WBO World Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders has played down a rematch with fierce rival Chris Eubank Jr insisting the fellow Brit should proceed with his mandated World Title shot against WBA regular Champion Daniel Jacobs, then the pair can get it on.

Saunders passionately stated “He’s not done anything. He’s boxing people I boxed 2/3 years. He’s mandatory for Daniel Jacobs, why step down to fight for the British Title? He wants to win a World Title. I’ll tell you why, he hasn’t got any guts! He’ll never be World Champion, Eubank.”

The slick southpaw believes it would be the same outcome if the pair shared the ring once more “I’ll beat him seven days a week and twice on a Sunday.”

Saunders v Eubank

“You can’t just keep giving people shots. You’ve got to earn your shot. If you give one man a free shot, then you got to give the next man a free shot,” said the unbeaten former British, Commonwealth and European Champion.

Discussing the proposed bout which fell through last year, Saunders revealed “He got offered a hell of a lot of money to fight me last Summer in a rematch, a stadium fight – I put my World Title spot back on the line, my contract was signed but he wouldn’t give up his WBA Interim Title, but (later on) he dropped it anyway.”

A potential unification bout would tempt Saunders into a rematch “If he wants to make a name for himself fight Jacobs and if he beats him but he’s got enough to bring to the table.”
