WBO World Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Smith has admitted he would love a showdown with Miguel Cotto.
The Puerto Rican legend has provisionally pencilled in a ring return for Saturday 18th June in New York for his first outing since defeat to Canelo Alvarez back in November.
Cotto has earmarked fighting down at Super-Welterweight after previously holding the WBC World Middleweight Title.
Now ranked #1 with the WBO, Cotto is firmly on Smith’s radar.
The defending Champion took to his Twitter page to confirm his interest in fighting the 35 year old:
After winning the vacant World Title against John Thompson back in October, ‘Beefy’ went on to make a successful first defence of his crown against Jimmy Kelly in December.
Team Smith had been in talks with Canelo about a possible fight before the flame haired Mexican opted to fight Amir Khan in May.
The Liverpudlian has made it no secret his plans to mix with the best contenders available and will be eagerly awaiting Cotto’s next move.
