WBO World Super-Welterweight Champion Liam Smith has played down Canelo Alvarez’s size will be a factor when they collide in Dallas on Saturday 17th September.
The flame haired Mexican is known to bulk up in between the weigh-in and fight night but Smith insists he’ll be ready.
As published on Boxing Scene, the unbeaten Scouser explained: "The difference is that I'm a natural Super-Welterweight. The weight will not play against me like it did with Khan and others.”
Amir Khan was quoted post their May fight, which ended in a conclusive KO of the year contender, to suggest Alvarez rehydrated to around 180 lbs.
“I can deal with that weight, and height will not be a problem. I'll go for the knockout and if we have to go 12 rounds I will trust the judges will do their best work and I will get the victory if I deserve it,” stated the Merseyside maverick.
"This is not about revenge. They [Team Khan] had their chance and fell short, but without disrespecting them I think I'm a much more complete fighter than they were.”
‘Beefy’ concluded: “I'm bigger, they were coming from 140 or 147 pounds, they were smaller, but I I'm going to compete on equal terms. I'm going to beat him without any fear."
