K2 Promotion’s Tom Loeffler has confirmed the winner of Canelo v Khan will have 15 days to outline their intentions to face the winner of April’s bout between Gennady Golovkin and Dominic Wade.
The feared Kazakh KO King defends his World Titles against unbeaten Dominic Wade in LA whilst Canelo Alvarez defends his WBC World Title against Amir Khan a few weeks later at the new T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas.
“This is a fight that the IBF wanted, it’s a mandatory defence. He just won the title so it wouldn’t make sense to have to give it up. Naturally we reached out to other Champions but we wasn’t able to make a deal with them,” explained Loeffler.

Speaking with FightHype, the promoter played down suggestion this should be an easy night’s work for the pound for pound puncher: “Gennady is 33 years old, if he has an off night… Look at Wladimir Klitschko!”
Injury to Tureano Johnson opened the door for IBF ranked #3 Wade to get his first shot at World honours.
“We know Dominic Wade is a young and hungry fighter and with one win he could be at the top,” continued Loeffler.
Firming up plans for a blockbuster unification Middleweight bout later this year, Loeffler revealed contracts are in place.
“Everything is in writing, it has been signed all sides, we have a lot of respect for Canelo – Everything is mandated from the WBC. The winner of Canelo v Khan has 15 days to commit to either fighting Gennady or not… If they commit we’ll start putting that fight together.”
