British Title challenger Tommy Langford believes Chris Eubank Jr has backed himself into a corner.
With several high profiled fights seemingly falling through, Jr must now defend his British Title against the mandated Langford.
Promoter Frank Warren won the purse bids to stage the fight which takes place on our big Cardiff show on October 22nd.
Speaking with iFL TV, the 17-0 ace revealed: “They have forced themselves into the fight with me. GGG, Saunders, Jacobs are all World Champions with huge money and he’s not taken them. All the other fighters are busy now, he’s forced himself into this option.”
Eubank Jr starts as a heavy favourite with the bookies but the Baggies Bomber believes if Team Eubank are looking beyond October 22nd’s fight in Cardiff, it could play into his hands.
“If they overlook me, it’s all the better for me. I’ve got 100% belief in my ability. He’s a favourite to the outsiders to the sport but people who know boxing know it’s a great fight. I’ve 100% got the tools to win and will win!”
Ranked #2 with the WBO, Langford knows victory to claim the coveted British Title would also bring him one step closer to a shot at World honours.
The current Commonwealth Champion draws on Billy Joe Saunders’ win as a potential blueprint to success.
“Eubank can fight, he’s very explosive and accurate with his uppercuts. He’s a good fighter but I don’t believe they’ve shown anything different since the fight with Billy Joe. He’s not really had anyone since Billy Joe who’s showed the angles and movement, they have all stood in front of him which has played into his hands.”
The 27 year old is under no illusions, Eubank Jr presents his toughest test to date.
“I’ve got a lot to show, there’s a lot of things within me that people haven’t seen that I have to show on the night. No one has seen me box on the back foot but I can.”
Langford, who was sparring Kell Brook ahead of his fight with Gennady Golovkin, revealed: “I done five rounds with him, he’s very clever! It was very good, tough sparring.”
