Speaking at a media day ahead of his fight against Andre Ward this Saturday, Sullivan Barrera has revealed training with Gennady Golovkin has help breed confidence.

Both Barrera and Golovkin are part of trainer Abel Sanchez’s stable of fighters up in Big Bear, California.

“It’s a confidence builder to be with someone like Gennady, he’s a stablemate and friend. He’s given me a lot of advice. Having him be a part of the training has helped a lot,” explained the unbeaten Barrera to BoxingEgo.

It’s well documented the Cuban could have walked into a fight with Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev but was more than willing to take a sideway step to face Ward.

“The fact this offer was given, I was prepared to give up my mandatory position shows I’m confident. You got to do, what you got to do,” said the 34 year old.

Travelling into Ward’s hometown isn’t a problem according to Barrera: “This is a dream, it doesn’t matter where I fight – It’s my job to prove who I am.”
