Size difference has been one of the main talking points ahead of Vasyl Lomachenko v Guillermo Rigondeaux, but both teams have agreed on a compromise.
On December 9th, two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing clash in the first ever meeting of two double-Olympic gold medalists in the paid ranks, live on BoxNation.
Rigondeaux is moving up two weight divisions to take on his Ukrainian foe, but there is no concern from his team or the fighter himself over the size difference.
Lomachenko agreed to a re-hydration clause, which means that ‘Hi-Tech’ is limited to weighing 138lbs (9 stone, 8.5lbs) on the day after the weigh-in, reducing any advantage gained from ballooning up in weight.
Top Rank, Lomachenko’s promoter, commented on the prospect of the clause: “Rigondeaux’s team broached the subject when negotiating the fight, so we went to Lomachenko and Egis [Klimas, his manager] with it.
“Lomachenko and Egis said they had no problem with it, so it’s in the contract. Size is not what will determine the outcome of this fight,” added Carl Moretti, Top Rank’s Vice President.
