Oscar De La Hoya has slammed Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto, branding him a "disgrace" and "disrespectful" after the now former WBC World Middleweight Champion was stripped of his world honours.

De La Hoya, who represents world title challenger Canelo Alvarez, criticised Cotto, who was stripped of his title by the WBC after refusing to pay a sanctioning fee. His man Canelo can still win the world title if he beats Cotto, but the belt isn't on the line for the Puerto Rican.

"It's a disrespect to the sport and the whole promotion. To do something like that is a disgrace to the sport," De La Hoya said.

"If [Canelo] was angry, he's really going to be angry come that first bell. He's going to make him pay."

Cotto used his exclusive BoxNation interview to fire back, saying he "didn't need to pay attention to Oscar De La Hoya".
