*Note: WBC title on the line for Canelo Alvarez only, after Cotto allegedly failed to pay a WBC sanctioning fee.

The WBC have reiterated plans for the winner of next Saturday’s Middleweight mega fight between Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez to face Gennady Golovkin.

Recent talk has been that Canelo would only be willing to face Golovkin down at 155lbs and that Cotto isn’t overly keen on a potential fight.

GGG, who holds the IBF & WBA Middleweight jewels, is hell-bent on becoming the undisputed Middleweight Champion and has put talk of an alternative fight on the back burner until the outcome of the Mexican v Puerto Rican derby.

However, speaking at the WBC annual convention in China last week, President Mauricio Sulaiman firmed up plans for the mouth watering clash of the titans for next year.

“We ratify the winner of November 21 between Cotto and Canelo is committed to fight the interim Champion Gennady Golovkin who just won his last fight.”

Failure for the November 21 winner to negotiate terms with Golovkin would see the Kazakh KO king installed as the full WBC World Champion.
