Shakur Stevenson, Olympic silver medallist and rising star, makes his highly-anticipated debut this Saturday on the undercard of our Top Rank broadcast featuring Oscar Valdez, Gilberto Ramirez, Jessie Magdaleno.
USA’s first male Olympic boxing medallist since Andre Ward in 2004 is expected to do big things, starting with his pro debut against Edgar Brito who holds a winning (3-2) record.
The decorated amateur revealed to ES News that he’s aiming for a knockout to punctuate his pro debut and says he is in the best shape of his life: “I’m in a lot better shape than I was for the Olympics”. In the final in Rio, he was edged by talented Cuban Robeisy Ramirez.
Stevenson has been sparring with IBF Super Featherweight World Champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and described him as a “beast”. Sparring together has helped both boxers prepare for their upcoming match-ups, with Davis scheduled to face unbeaten English challenger Liam Walsh on May 20th, live on BoxNation at the Copperbox Arena, London.
When Irish MMA star Conor McGregor was mentioned, Stevenson stated he’d “rather take out the little bro, Michael Conlan…we’ve got unfinished business!
“He’s talking a lot right now, I’m going to let him talk but we’re going to get that done. He’s a great fighter, later on down the line we’re going to fight for big, big money.” Conlan currently operates at Super-Bantamweight and stopped Tim Ibarra in his own pro debut on BoxNation screens last month.
Watch Shakur Stevenson debut on our blockbuster World Title triple-header featuring Oscar Valdez vs. Miguel Marriaga, Gilberto Ramirez vs. Max Bursak and Jessie Magdaleno vs. Adeilson Dos Santos defending their World Titles on BoxNation, April 22nd after our Leicester show.
