WBC World Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder has expressed his disappointment after his recent fight with Alexander Povetkin fell through.
“I was very disappointed, I have to be honest that camp was the best I’ve ever looked in my life,” explained Wilder to ThaBoxingVoice.
The bout was due to be aired on BoxNation last month but a positive test for the banned substance Meldonium from Povetkin caused the WBC to intervene and stop the fight from going ahead.
“I never give myself full credit, I’m always my biggest critic but that camp I was ready to show the World I am the best,” continued Wilder.
After a whopping purse bid of $7m won the rights to host the contest in Russia, Wilder was finishing up his training camp in England before travelling East just prior to the cancellation.
“Not only was I going to prove it, I was going to his country to do it. He took that moment from me!”
The ‘Bronze Bomber’ now defends his World Title against Chris Arreola in July and will be keeping one eye on the winner of Tyson Fury v Wladimir Klitschko for a potential unification bout later in the year.
